Secretary Haaland Celebrates Native Land Return

Interior returns title for 1,000 acres to Onondaga Nation.

Last week, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland celebrated the transferral of 1,000 acres of ancestral land to the Onondaga Nation. In 2018, the Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration (NRDAR) Program created a settlement to restore New York’s Tully Valley through the authority and jurisdiction of the Indigenous Nation. The restoration strategies of Indigenous Nations very effectively care for the unique ecosystems of United States lands.

“This historic agreement represents a unique opportunity to return traditional homelands back to Indigenous people to steward for the benefit of their community,” said Secretary Haaland. “We look forward to drawing upon the Onondaga Nation’s expertise and Indigenous knowledge in helping manage the area’s valuable wildlife and habitat.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and his advisors as they return the management of lands to Native American tribes.
  • For discernment for Secretary Haaland as she oversees the Interior Department.
  • For U.S. officials as they determine the methods by which to steward federal lands.
